ZD Winery

Welcome everyone to the latest edition of my Winery Wednesday series! If you are new to my Winery Wednesday posts, they are pretty simple, I share about my experience at a new winery in the Napa/Sonoma area (or maybe even another wine regions!). While I still have A LOT to visit I love sharing my thoughts and experiences on every winery I go to. This is my way to spread the word about the amazing places to visit in Wine Country. Thank you for reading along…let’s get started!

While today I have been running around trying to finish packing as I am headed out of town for a family vacation, I first wanted to share my recent experience at ZD Wines this past weekend. My friends invited me to join them for a tasting at this beautiful winery in Napa right off Silverado Trail. and I am so grateful they did! ZD Wines, which stands for “Zero Defects,” recently just underwent a major renovation to their main tasting room.

The remodel is absolutely gorgeous and features some beautiful interior design elements. One part that was my favorite is the large windows on the first and second floors that look into the barrel room…you guys know I love a barrel room!

We were guided to where we would be enjoying our tasting…overlooking the vineyards on the newly remodeled second floor. The view was honestly so gorgeous and they have huge sliding glass doors that slide into the wall to have an indoor/outdoor element…I can only imagine how perfect this would be on a sunny summer day. We continued our tasting through their selections which included a delicious 2017 Reserve Chardonnay from Carneros that would be perfect on a warm afternoon. One of my favorite things at a tasting is getting the opportunity to try a side by side. We were able to try the 2017 Founder’s Reserve Pinot Noir from Carneros with the 2017  Pinot Noir. Both 2017 but extremely different! And while both were delicious, I fell in love with the Founder’s Reserve and left with a bottle to share with my family.

Just when I didn’t think it could get any better, we had another side by side tasting. The first was the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, and the 100 point 2015 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Talk about an awesome wine tasting!

The Abacus vintages, over $6 million worth of wine in this pic!

One very unique thing about ZD wines is the legendary “Abacus” wine. This blend currently consists of the same Cabernet Sauvignon varietal from 1992 to 2015. They have a specific method and calculation of how they blend each vintage of this varietal to create a truly amazing wine. While I was unable to try any this day, I plan to be back to hopefully get to taste this iconic wine. At a $2,052 price tag per 3-bottle pack, this is truly an elevated wine and an amazing blend of all the different vintages.
